Sunday November 3rd 10am - 12pm and
Sunday November 10th 10am - 12pm
Learn to knit the Briggs and Little Family Thrummed Mittens pattern by Catherine Vardy. This class is perfect for those who have never knit mittens and for those who would like to add to their mitten knitting skills.
Thrummed mittens are a cozy, traditional Newfoundland mitten designed for extra warmth. They are knitted with pieces of wool or fleece called "thrums," which are worked into the fabric of the mitten. These thrums create a soft, fluffy layer of insulation on the inside of the mitten while looking like tiny, decorative bumps or patterns on the outside.
The thrums are typically made from unspun wool, and as you wear the mittens, the thrums felt together inside, making them even warmer. Thrummed mittens are especially popular in cold climates because they trap heat effectively, making them perfect for keeping your hands warm in freezing weather.
