SOCK BASICS: Saturday, April 12th and 19th, 10am-1pm, 2025
SATURDAYS, April 12th and 19th 10-1pm
INSTRUCTOR: Danielle Baines
If you can knit a tube, then you can knit a sock. This class is for traditional top-down socks. We will start at the cuff with a variation on the long-tail cast-on, then work through a heel flap & heel turn, gusset pick-up & decreases, and end at the toe, where we’ll look at grafted and non-grafted options. Students will knit a small "frankensock" to practice each step.
Additional information:
· This class will not teach you how to knit a small circumference in the round. That is a skill you must have in order to participate fully in the class.
· Knitting a small circumference in the round is different from regular knitting in the round. It’s knitting a mitten or a sweater sleeve or the crown of a hat. If you haven’t done that yet, please practice ahead of time.
· You can do this class with traditional DPNs, flexible DPNs, two short circulars, or magic loop. Your instructor will be able to demonstrate with any of these needle configurations. Please bring the needles that you are comfortable with for knitting a small circumference in the round. For example, if you usually use DPNs, then bring DPNs. Learning to knit a sock while using an unfamiliar needle configuration will complicate things unnecessarily and may cause you to fall behind during the hands-on parts of class.
